What to Wear When Going Back to Work

Half days of getting half-dressing are joyously coming to a screeching halt. While some were loving extra time with family, others were feeling depressed and secluded. Now that companies are slowly getting employees back into the workplace this summer, the everlasting question still hangs over our heads like a sad, saggy raincloud:

What do we wear now?!

Before you hit the panic button, (which some already have), know this: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

The summer dress code requires one thing: professional attire without looking like you’re counting down the minutes to happy hour. What is considered “work appropriate” these days depends on your industry. Just know this: you can never go wrong with being the best dressed in your office. Put in the extra effort and you will be exhausted with compliments when you follow these style suggestions.

Try a front ankle slit pant. This look can totally transition from spring/summer to fall. It pairs well with mules or sneakers in the summer and look fabulous with booties in the winter. This pant with a mock turtle neck and cropped blazer really takes this to ‘mod’ professional in today’s workplace.

Bold color blazers and suit separates are all the rage. Loud colors are bigger than ever this year; especially when it comes to suiting. Try a color that you love and pair it with a solid white or neutral pant. A bright-colored blazer will draw attention to your top half while minimizing the bottom. A patterned blouse or graphic tee is a knockout under this type of jacket. This is a sure conversation starter that sends a message of confidence to the world.

The midi skirt is a wardrobe staple that will always be appropriate for the office in summer. If you can wear open-toe shoes in the office, then wear this type of skirt with some adorable patterned mules. If not, then rock it with some sneakers and a vintage tee. Throw on a beaded or jeweled denim jacket or cardi when they crank up the air so they can’t freeze you out of your workspace.

The puffed sleeve dress is something we are seeing right now that’s breathing new life into the common workday dress. Change from a summer white bootie and work tote to a sleek, strappy heel, statement earring, and shiny clutch for dinner and drinks straight from work. This dress is also ideal with a canvas sneaker, crossbody bag, and ball cap for a casual, comfortable day with no client meetings on the books!

The summer sweater is pure style perfection in these two scenarios: Great for summer when you need a step up from your favorite tee and layered under a lightweight jacket and a printed scarf for fall. Summer weight sweaters are must-haves in your work wardrobe. These are perfect to pair with a midi or maxi skirt, or, a ladylike, princess-seamed pant for a day at the office.
